The ADEME number, explained
ADEME is the packaging producer register operated by ADEME (ADEME identifiant unique (IDU)). Every producer placing packaging on the FR market must hold a valid registration; the number proves the producer has met its Extended Producer Responsibility obligation for that stream.
Why marketplaces verify it (PPWR Article 45)
Under PPWR Article 45 a marketplace must obtain each seller's EPR registration and self-certification, and assess before activation that the information is complete and reliable, per country and waste stream (Article 45(4)-(6)). Fulfilment providers carry a matching obtain-assess-suspend duty under Article 45(7)-(8). A single check here returns the verdict, the register consulted, the capture timestamp and the evidence basis: the same record an audit pack is built from. In France, marketplaces face administrative fines up to EUR 30,000 plus delisting or pay-on-behalf enrolment of the seller. See EPR penalties by country.
